When it comes to human resources, automation technologies are considered to be a major workplace disruptor, given that it enables consistent process execution, leading to greater efficiency, better customer service and significant cost savings.

These are very important aspects of human resources activities and ,according to a McKinsey and Company research, provide “the bandwidth, resources and credibility” necessary to drive value from talent.

More than a half of HR tasks can be automated

The McKinsey Global Institute estimates that 56 percent of all tasks human resources departments perform can be automated with existing technologies.

Employing intelligent process automation and new technologies can help human resources operations to get back on track in terms of consistency of people processes and provides them with the ability to efficiently manage the “dynamic nature of the requests they receive”.

The adoption of artificial intelligence technologies such as machine learning, cognitive agents and robotic process automation not only brings more efficiency to human resources, but also reduces operational costs. The research explains that robotic process automation consists on the use of software with AI and machine learning capabilities to perform repeatable tasks. Which can produce significant enhancement of human resources processes.

Bots are a cost-effective solution to improve your HR department

Concerning the hiring activities, it is believed that very soon it will be possible to automate more steps of the process. Bots will be used to perform a wider range of tasks such as drafting offer letters, writing job descriptions or setting up payroll and benefits data, improving the employee experience regarding human resources.

For instance, chat bots can provide a more efficient and engaging support to employees than the traditional channels, since they answer questions instantaneously and are always available on mobile apps.

Bots are also generally low-cost and effective. Another example provided by the McKinsey & Company research, tells us how a fast-growing tech company reduced by 66% the time spent drafting and checking accuracy in offer letters by using bots.

It not only got faster to generate offer letters, but also compliance and accuracy was improved, and the company had the chance to allocate HR employees to more value-added tasks. Additionally, a faster turnaround time is likely to lead to higher job offer acceptance rates.

Although the benefits of automation in human resources are very clear, the truth is that HR is not on the top of the list of departments that have better chances of employing more intelligent technologies into their processes, like the finance or marketing departments.

This transformation requires great human and financial resources and, for now, only larger companies have the possibility of going through with it. Despite that, as the McKinsey & Company research concludes, it is important to acknowledge that automation technologies can greatly benefit human resources, providing it with efficiency, cost savings and better service quality, and should be part of every transformation strategy.
